Standard pole lengths: when did they get longer?
In getting into Epic Pike & Shotte I noticed standard bearers carry standards that can be waved one-handed. When did the poles become longer as they were by the Napoleonic Wars?

I wonder if this is related to flag weights increasing. If you have a look at this clip, the flags seem to be quite light.
I can’t find much information but one thing I did find is that the flag cloth thickness was doubled in the late 17th century to support the heavier fringes. Embroidery with metallic threads may also have made a difference although British army flags tended to be painted rather than embroidered.

Looking at the French Infantry Giffard regulations 1670-80 the pole length 220-230cm and standard butts started to appear.
