Re: Samur
Cheers Bob, many thanx for posting....
Greatness is not in where we stand,
but in what direction we are moving,
we must sail sometimes in the wind,
and sometimes against it,
but sail we must, and not drift nor lie at anchor.

Looks like a memorable visit. Thanks for sharing - it must have taken forever to post all those photos

Re: Samur
It’s got a great collection, particularly the French armour (not surprisingly). The day I was there they were firing up the engine on the PzII Lynx, in the exhibition hall....very noisy and a lot of fumes, but very atmospheric.

Re: Samur
Looking forward to my visit this year. I did hear that photography required a ticket now

Hi, four of us visited Saumur in late April and no-one stopped us taking photos for free. Also, the place was pretty empty and very few staff (if any) were visible in the halls. I don't know if it is different if you are a bit more "professional".

Re: Samur
I paid for the photo ticket but it was only a few Euro - this was a couple of years back now. Having said that no one interceded and asked to see the ticket after I'd purchased it.

Hi all,
Three friends and I are going to Samur next June 2019. I believe the French cavalry museum is also nearby. Do the people who have gone to the area know of any other places of interest to visit. It would be most helpful if you could reply.
Cheers,
Ian

Re: Samur
When I went it was for a Trade show there so was a bit of a zip there and back again, the museum itself is brill.
There are so many sights to indulge, we did Le Mans for a day. Rather depends on your interests and route but there are Chateuxs/castles a plenty all around. A few guide books from the Library will give you the highlights.
