QUICK NORMANDY BASH

Post by SABOT » Thu Jul 12, 2018 10:31 pm

A very quickly thrown together game - utilising the fur terrain, for what turned out to be a fun game. An encounter battle where two players aside were briefed their opposition were defending. In fact both were attacking so there was no holding back. Was fast and furious with a ‘newbie’ playing one of the German commanders. So, you just know how his die throwing went . 😬

British Infantry advancing steadily uphill to take possession of what they see is key terrain - a feature of dead ground to use as a FUP and secure start line. But, hang on the bloody Germans have turned up early and nicked all the sun beds .... I mean the same ground. 🤭

Just below the British, the Germans are breaking free from a hedge line to launch their advance.

German armour gets the jump on its British counterpart - or does it?

Bn. 6 Pounder ATG set up in a cracking defilade position. They spot first and enfilade fire is effective at short range.

“Tank Action!” “500 ..... Fire!” Even though on the move , a hit on a side on mover is easier than head on and the Panther stutters to a halt. A mobility kill and the crew bale out.

German Infantry swing right to outflank the British Infantry Coy on the high ground .

The British Infantry are deployed two up so the left hand Coy has already got the situation covered. Things are pretty even.

The high ground is seized and secured as the British dig in fast. The C.O. arrives in style, views the ground and orders the two supporting Coys to swing right, across the corn field. Two remaining Coys go firm to keep one foot on the ground as the other Coys advance under their covering fire.

Enter our ‘Newbie’. His armour starts from a cammed up position and hurtles forwards, alongside a Tiger 1 (Well it’s his first game and you know it’s going to burn!)

Rushing on .... straight into enfilade fire. 😳

Image

And P.I.A.T. Fire! 😬

Image

German advance halted, the Mg42 s did what they do. Caused casualties but, were spotted. Rather than move , they sat there ..... and sat there ....

And then these lads got involved .....

Which, reminded the Germans that they had some support weapons too. 🤭

And these ......

The Tiger crew fought the engine compartment fire and sorted the mechanical damage but then sped off home down the road - yep another 1 thrown by the newbie!

The Brits cheered the Krauts home and game over as the German effort faded and then turned into a withdrawal to a previously arranged secondary position. The British armour turned up late (Churchill’s) and the FOO got organised just as the Germans made a clean break. 😩

All ready for the next bash then? 👍

Cheers . It was great fun and good to dust off some of my 20mm kit. Some of it is now over twenty years old - where has the time gone?

Cheers mate. Main thing I enjoy is representing actual terrain by at least the contours and the rest , well we all do our best. But, the dead ground is critical and as a Tank Commander I had that drilled into me for years.

Superb table and AAR, thanx for posting.... thmbs2)
Greatness is not in where we stand, but in what direction we are moving. We must sail sometimes in the wind, and sometimes against it, but sail we must, and not drift nor lie at anchor.
